Why Did Yazid(la) Release The Captives (Household Of Holy Prophet)?

When the charming little Bibi Sakina(s.a) died and the people of Damascus came to learn about the death of the little girl whom they had seen and come to admire, they began to talk openly about Yazid’s (l.a) cruelty.

Yazid feared that the people might rise against him. He was now anxious to get rid of the prisoners. He called Imam Sajjad(a.s) and told him that he was prepared to free them, and compensate them for the death of the martyrs. He also asked whether they wanted to remain in Damascus, or return to Madina. Imam Sajjad (a.s) replied that he would consult his aunt Bibi Zainab (s.a). When Imam spoke to Bibi Zainab (s.a) she was grief stricken at the audacity of Yazid in offering compensation. She said, “Tell Yazid to talk of compensation with the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h).

We would certainly return to Madina. But first Yazid should provide a house so that we may hold mourning ceremonies for the martyrs in Damascus cause we weren’t allowed to cry over the martyrs. Also, ask him to give our Chadors back. With that, give the heads of Martyrs to us.”

Yazid (l.a) after some hesitation agreed. In asking for a house to mourn the martyrs in Damascus, Bibi Zainab (s.a) scored a major victory over Yazid. When the house was made available, the ladies held Aza al-Hussain for 7 days (some say 3) in the very city which was capital of Yazid

Who had murdered Imam Hussain (a.s). Women of Damascus poured in to offer their condolences and Bibi Zainab (s.a) and the other ladies would tell them of how the martyrs had been killed, how they had been denied water, how young children had been crying al-atash and everything.

The heads of Martyrs were brought inside. A small head was brought and Bibi Rubab (s.a) rushed towards it holding her son and wept. Head which resembled Prophet (p.b.u.h) was brought, Bibi Layla (s.a) rushed to take it. One by one the heads came and it was time for Aun O Muhammed (a.s).

Bibi Zainab (s.a) looked elsewhere. The person who was giving the heads said, “Did their mother died while coming from Karbala to Shaam?” Bibi Fizza (s.a) wept and took the heads of sons of Zainab (s.a). When it was Imam Hussain’s (a.s) turn, Bibi Zainab (s.a) rushed to take her brothers head.

Chadors were also given back and when it was time for a small Chador which would be of Bibi Sakina (s.a), Bibi Rubab (s.a) would weep missing her daughter who was now with her Baba (a.s).
