Celebrating the Miracle of Birth: The Story of Bibi Sakina (s.a)

Bibi Sakina (s.a) is the youngest daughter of Imam Hussain (a.a), our third Imam. Her mother Bibi Umme Rubaab (s.a) is the daughter of Imra al Qays the chief of the tribe of Kalb.
Sakina (s.a) is a derivative of “Sakoon” meaning “Peace.” Her other names are Sukayna and Ruqaiyya.

Imam Hussain (a.s) used to pray for a daughter in his Tahajjud Prayer (Namaz E Shab), a daughter who would give him peace, and Allah granted him his wish and blessed him with Bibi Sakina (s.a). The birth of Bibi Sakina (s.a) was a result of those night prayers.

Bibi Sakina (s.a) was born on 20 Rajab 57 A.H in Madina.
Imam Hussain (a.s) felt very happy and used to compare her to his mother Bibi Fatima Zahra (s.a). He called his daughter Kheeratun Niswaan, the best of the ladies just as her grandmother was known as Khairunissa.

Many of the titles that are for Bibi Fatima (s.a) are also used for Bibi Sakina (s.a). When we read her Ziarat, we convey our salams to her as Taqiya (Pious), Naquiya (Pure), Kareema (Noble), and Baheeya (Radiant).

Bibi Sakina (s.a) was the most beloved daughter of Imam Hussain (a.s) and used to sleep on his chest every night. She was a lively child, full of love and happiness. Everyone loved her. She was very religious and enjoyed reading the Holy Quran and never missed her prayers (Namaz).

From the age of two, Bibi Sakina (s.a) took great care to make sure that her head and face were properly covered as per the Islamic dress code Hijab when in public. Also, she was a Hafiz e Quran at four years old, which shows how intelligent and clever she was.

Bibi Sakina (s.a) is called Bizati Shabab e Ahle Janna, a part of Imam Hussain (a.s), the leader of the Youth of Paradise. Imam Hussain (a.s) was often heard saying, “A house without Sakina (s.a) would not be worth living in!”

There was a special bond between Hazrat Abbas (a.s) and Bibi Sakina (s.a). He loved her more than he did his own children. If Bibi Sakina (s.a) requested anything, he would not rest until he satisfied her request. There was nothing that Hazrat Abbas (a.s) would not do to make her happy.

Congratulations on the Birth Anniversary of Little Hashimite Princess Bibi Sakina (s.a), the peace of Imam Hussain (a.s) & Hazrat Abbas (a.s) ❤
